Privacy Policy
Last updated: 20 October 2026
Quakou is an email program that runs on your own computer. This policy explains what Quakou does with your information. In short: your mail stays on your computer, Quakou has no servers of its own, and nobody at Quakou can read your mail.
What Quakou keeps, and where
- Your mail (messages, attachments, folders) is downloaded from your mail provider straight to your computer and kept there, in Quakou's data folder.
- Your accounts and settings are kept in the same place. Passwords, app passwords and sign-in tokens are stored encrypted, protected by a key kept on your computer.
- Notes, tags, rules, templates and contacts you create in Quakou are kept on your computer only.
Quakou does not send any of this to Quakou or to anyone else. There is no Quakou account, no Quakou cloud and no Quakou server.
Who Quakou connects to
- Your mail providers (for example Google, Microsoft, Yahoo or your own company's mail server), directly, to download and send your mail.
- Google and Microsoft sign-in pages, when you choose to sign in with them. You sign in on their own pages; Quakou never sees your password.
- Pictures in messages are downloaded from the internet only if you allow it (for one message, for a sender you choose, or always, as set in Settings).
- Senders' pictures, only if you switch on "Look up senders' pictures online": Quakou asks Gravatar using a scrambled form (a hash) of the sender's address, never the address itself, and looks up the logo a company publishes for its mail domain. Answers are kept on your computer.
Google user data
When you add a Gmail or Google Workspace account with "Sign in with Google", Quakou asks for access to your Gmail (https://mail.google.com/) and for your email address. Quakou uses this access only to show you your mail, to send the mail you write, and to carry out what you ask (for example moving, flagging or deleting messages) in your own mailbox.
- Your Gmail data is kept only on your computer and is not transferred to Quakou or to any third party.
- It is not used for advertising, not sold, and not used to build profiles of you.
- No person reads your Gmail data. It is not used to train any artificial intelligence or machine-learning model.
Quakou's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Microsoft accounts
When you add an Outlook.com, Hotmail or Microsoft 365 account with "Sign in with Microsoft", Quakou asks for permission to read and send your mail through IMAP and SMTP, and for your basic profile (name and email address). As with Google, this access is used only to show and send your own mail, on your computer.
Removing your data
- Removing an account in Quakou (Settings, Accounts) deletes its mail, settings and sign-in from your computer.
- Uninstalling Quakou removes the program. You can also delete Quakou's data folder to remove everything it kept.
- You can withdraw Quakou's access at any time in your Google account (myaccount.google.com, Security, Third-party apps) or your Microsoft account (account.microsoft.com, Privacy, Apps and services).
Children
Quakou is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version will be published on this page with a new date.
